they are still searching for him, they believe he is still alive. >> reporter: this is the desperate 911 call after a boat capsized on the chesapeake bay near sandy point this weekend. >> they're off of sandy point, their boat capsized, they're in the water. >> ma'am, are you hanging on to your boat? >> reporter: you can hear the cries for help. >> reporter: then the phone goes dead. police recovered the body of 46- year-old daniel danekie. one person survived, taylor rogers from salisbury. she was treated for hypertherm hyperthermia and is talking to investigators. >> his dog, his right hand man was glued to him all the time. there hasn't been any signs of

him either. in the back of my mind, there's a glimpse of hope that tyler and or rosco are humped up in the woods some where. >> reporter: this has been a particularly deadly year in the water with 22 people who have died in the chesapeake and its tributaries. police are not sure what caused the boat to capsize. the three on board were wearing life vests, the boat was found in 3 feet of water. >> it's no longer a search and rescue, it's now a recovery. they might welcome across tyler and you're going to wonder how he survived this long. >> reporter: tyler's family says he is still missing in the water and are looking for volunteers to search. >> if you think you would like to help in the search you can call 443-610-6307. the family plans to resume their search in the morning. no bail, the man who fired

at the white house must remain in custody. oscar ortega hernandez is accused of using an assault rifle to fire at the white house. he is charged with attempted assassination of the president. there are apparent contradictions. imagine waking up to a masked armed man in your home. it happened to a dundalk woman and it ended with police firing. >> reporter: that 27-year-old suspect broke into that dundalk home and police say they were forced to fire at him after they fired he fired a semi automatic weapon at them. a woman wakes to find a

stranger in her home wearing a ski mask and carrying a gun. >> she was obviously frightened and distraught, contacted a next door neighbor. the neighbor called 911 and initiated the police response. >> reporter: officered rushed to the home, at least one opened fire. the 27-year-old suspect was taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. neighbors say they didn't hear a thing. >> came out to take my little one to school and that's when i noticed all the cops and everything was roped off. sky high chopper 13 over the scene as investigators combed through the evidence. neighbors are on edge about the attempted home invasion. >> like i say i live a couple of streets down and it just makes you wonder, my goodness in your own neighborhood. it's kind of frightening. >> reporter: the incident happened within walking distance of two schools. >> it is scary, especially with

all my kids and everything being around here: and the schools just in session and everything. it's scary. >> reporter: as officers stand guard outside the home, police continue to investigate what happened inside. investigators say the suspect did steal money from the home, at this point it's not clear if there's any relationship between the suspect and the victims. reporting live, megan mckorkel. >> the officer who fired the gun will be placed on routine administrative leave pending an investigation. a fourth day of testimony in the military hearing for bradley manning. he's the top soldier accuse of leaking top secret documents. manning is accused of releasing hundreds of documents to wikileaks. the hearing will determine if manning should be court marshals on 22 charges, including aiding the enemy. it is a west coast troop, ravens coaches and fans certainly want to forget. the team is blasted by the san

diego chargers and it may cost them critical play off positioning. sports director mark viviano has more on what coach harbaugh has to say. >> reporter: denise, very disappointing was that game last night. a disappointing feeling out here in owens mill. despite that defeat the ravens did clench their first consecutive play off appearance but there's not a whole lot of celebrating going on because of how poorly the ravens played in that loss in san diego. because that loss has hampered their hopes of playing at home. it was an opportunity in prime time to show the football world that the ravens are truly a super bowl contender. but the result was anything but super. as phillip rivers and the san diego chargers take apart a proud ravens defense. through the air and on the ground. rolling out more than 400 yards and never once having to punt. it was as thorough a beating as the ravens have suffered in the

expected to vote down the two month extension the senate approved over the weekend. house republicans want a yearlong deal. they're calling on senators to return from vacation and renegotiate a plan. >> we opposed the senate bill because doing a two month extension ahead of a full year extension causes uncertainty for job creators. >> reporter: what's at stake is a tax hike for 160 million americans. the payroll holiday put in an extra $1,000 in the paychecks of americans. the social security tax break and some unemployment benefits will expire on new years day if they cannot create the extension. harry reed has already shut down the idea of negotiating a new deal. he says democrats won't talk long term until the house passes a bill that extends the cuts through february. the white house is pushing

congress to pass the senate short term compromise now. >> we remain hopeful that the house will act, the house republicans will do the right things. >> reporter: as time runs out there's still another hurdle. the senate cannot hold the vote during the holiday recess unless all 100 senators approve. >> in washington, daniel nottingham. wjz news? the two month extension plan goes up for debate beyond taxes and unemployment benefits. it also avoids cuts in medicare payments to doctors. it's one of the national zoos most popular exhibits. zoo scientists will announce a major gift that will help fund the giant panda program for five more years. the zoo's male panda is showing the first signs of breeding behavior for the season and munching. still to come, roaring into town. >> behind the scenes of the lion king. i'm mary bubala we will show

a shooting has police scrambling. andrea fujii with more on the violent outbreak. >> reporter: police made an arrest in the murder of a cab driver. but there are many killings in the city to be solved. police say a 27-year-old man survived a robbery and shooting on north polaski street. lawrence edwards was gunned down and died. early saturday morning, 32-year- old jeffrey smith was shot and killed just off bell air road. his friend anthony jasper isn't surprised by the violence. >> as time goes by i'm trying to deal with it but you never know what can happen. >> reporter: early sunday morning, deon barnes was found

dead in his car. police say shot multiple timeless. soon after, a 30-year-old taxi driver had a bullet grace his back while police say two passengers robbed him. >> we do have a person of interest identified in that case. we are working to bring him forward to police. >> reporter: on sunday night, a man was shot in the chest on north bellard avenue, he is recovering. so far this year there's been 192 homicides in the city. down 10% from last year. but police say that's no cause for celebration. >> we do continue to target bad guys with guns as the commissioner would say and we're going to keep doing that no matter what the numbers are or what the weekends bring. >> reporter: despite that assurance, long time city resident james kinsler says he doesn't feel safe. >> it's the mind set of people this day and time. people don't have the value of life like they used to. >> reporter: now we just received this mug shot of the suspect in the shooting of the cab driver, police say 24-year- old maurice turner will face attempted murder charges. meanwhile police continue to

interview witnesses of the other shootings, hoping someone will come forward with information. reporting live outside of city police headquarters, andrea fujii, eyewitness news. anyone with information should call baltimore city police. an anne arundel county woman faces charges after allegedly attacking a woman. police say 29-year-old kristin blue got into a fight with her boyfriend and tried to use a large kitchen knife to prevent her from leaving. picking your numbers in cyber space. maryland exploring the possibility of letting you buy lottery tickets online. pat warren tells us it's a money making idea with a long way to go. >> reporter: for some playing the lottery is a ritual and that includes where you buy the tickets. >> i came here to get a multi match and to play some keynote and play the three and four

here's a live look outside right now. there's sky chopper 13 going back. >> it's a vantage point you get. >> hold on to your hats. very, very nice. soft landing, yeah. we have another mild afternoon with temperatures close to 50 degrees. many spots again. our normal high is 44. right now really close to that high for the day. 49 here, 51 still in pax river. we have a lot of clouds around. 39 in oakland. there's been a couple of sprinkles and that's about all we expect to see. 48 up in cumberland, locally, the dewpoint is up in the 20s. there's still a lot of dry air around so there's a lot of precipitation from these clouds. they're going to make it to the

ground. i mean it's a mild night again. 44 bell air, and westminster. now this morning was quite chilly. 33 this morning, that's below normal and a lot of frost in the area. this morning it got to 32 degrees finally at the science center. this is the first morning that they've gotten to freezing. that is like the longest growing season the long time area has had in a long time. technically. it's the time between first and last frost of the year. that's a very long season. 50-22. the average now 44-37. the record 66 in 1931 and six in 1989. no winds here at all. but it's been a southerly component all night long. that will continue across the aridondaks. rain ahead of temperatures in the 50s and 60s.

70s right now in southern texas. north side 20s and 30s with snow. snow expected over new mexico, northern sections a little bit southwest. kansas could have blizzard conditions, as much as a foot in extreme south kansas. that system is heading out to the west. it'll bring us clouds and rain here on wednesday. as the front gets closer. that low pressure passes to our west. as long as that storm track passes to the west we stay in the mild air. maybe enough cool air behind it on wednesday. maybe a little wet snow mixture. yet another system on tap for thursday night and friday morning. that will be just rain as well. northeast winds of the day, five to 10 knots. the bay temps 46 still. a lot of clouds, 36 by morning. we stay above freezing. tomorrow a lot of clouds maybe a few breaks. maybe a couple of showers in a few isolated spots. rain and mild temperatures here ahead of that front on

it is just before 6:30, cloudy. a tense situation along the korean peninsula. following the death of north korean dictator kim jong il. the scene is creating confusion on what will happen next. a news anchor also teared up. >> how can he pass away like this says this man. i'm so heartbroken he says. the 69-year-old dear leader as supporters called him died saturday of a heart attack. kim was known as a master manipulator with nuclear ambitions. his death has world leaders watching north korea closely. >> it's my biggest concern
